This weekend I ran on Long Island (NY, not ME). I was not overly impressed with the runner friendliness.
I started in Eastport and went through Speonk and maybe another town or two. The first road I was on had no sidewalks and no shoulder, sharp turns, and 50+ mile per hour traffic. I got off of that road fast. The second road was not as bad, but was not all that great.
I realize that a 9 mile stretch west of the Hamptons is not really that representative of Long Island as a whole, but nothing else I saw while I was there served to give lie to the limited experience I had.
