Matt Clement hit by pitch and taken off on a stretcher
The Red Sox were playing the Devil Rays this evening, when in the top of the third inning Matt Clement got beaned by Carl Crawford from a line drive right back at the pitcher. The ball got him right behind his ear and knocked him backwards off the mound, where he lay twitching and holding his neck for about 5 minutes while they immobilized him and carried him off on a stretcher. He was taken to Bayfront Medical Center, but there is no word yet on his condition.
