Marathon World Championships

The men’s marathon was won by Moroccan Jaouad Gharib. He is only the second man to retain the men’s marathon title.
Christoper Isegwe set the pace in the early miles but was unable to chase down Gharib, who broke at 19 miles. Isegwe trailed Gharib by 11 seconds to finish in 2 hours, 10 minutes, and 21 seconds.
American Brian Sells finished in 9th with a time of 2:13:27, 5 seconds behind his personal best time from Chicago last year.
