Shaq helps arrest a man
Shaquille O’Neil tailed a guy and then helped police arrest him after the guy attacked a gay couple in Miami Beach. Shaq is already looking towards life after the NBA, hoping to get into law enforcement. I think that it is an admirable goal. However:
“For this incident I don’t want to be credited as an individual who does police work,” O’Neal said in a statement. “I want to be credited as a Miami Beach police officer.”
That statement just seems silly to me. I would tend to think that he should be credited as a citizen doing the right thing. Either way, good for him. I am glad that he has such an active role in his community and is becoming a reserve officer.
I am reminded of the joke, though: “Shaq would make a great sheriff, as long as he doesn’t have to shoot the criminals from the free throw line.”
