[...] Scott also mentions how you need to constantly reassess your goals and set an ever higher bar to reach. I wrote a few years ago about how reach your goals can erode your focus. [...]

Some good points here, Blaine. I think a large difference in our perspectives may actually have more to do with where we are in the rest of our lives. Sometimes, focusing on just one goal at a time is about all that I can squeeze into the shedule these days. :)

Good luck with that 50 state goal by the way. I think that's damn impressive, and they should have special 50 state medals for folks who do that.

[...] But I’ve been doing some thinking; spurred on by one of those stunning convergences that happen way too often to be completely the result of random chance: First, there was Jon’s rant yesterday and Blaine’s reply. I’ve also gone back and started re-reading my archives. As the final piece of the puzzle, I picked up a new tri book yesterday on my way home. [...]

Like you, I always have several goals at any point in time. Some of those may be achievable within a few hours, whilst others would require years of dedication.

This isn't intentional, but it does mean that I can always reach a few of them with comparitively little effort whilst keeping a few big ones on the horizon.
