I have used the Smith Machine on occasion, but normally stick to free weights and haven't used one for probably 2 years now.

I'm a firm believer in this, and never go near the push machines any more. In the nine months or so that I've been using freeweights, and the cable machines I've made huge advances.

It was just a matter of getting your ego in check, then dropping the weights a bit.

I now feel like a bit of an automaton when I'm strapped into a machine, feels rather unnatural compared to just lifting a bit of metal.

Then there was the one time I mentioned having a play on the smith machine in my blog. Boy did I ever get a roasting. :)
