Braxton Bilbrey is a second grader who swam from Alcatraz to Aquatic Park in San Francisco this morning in 47 minutes. He swam for 2 hours 4 days a week to train for the swim after reading about a 9 year old who had completed it. His parents supported his desire to set the record despite their misgivings about it. His next goal is to swim the English Channel.

Frankly, I am impressed. It is very tough to set long term goals at such a young age, especially ones that require as much work and dedication. I hope that Braxton stays healthy and injury free and that he has a successful competitive career ahead of him. He has the right makeup to do very well in the sports world and I expect that we will be hearing his name quite a bit in 10 years or so.
