Nike + iPodNike and Apple have teamed up to create a replacement for bulky GPS watches. No longer will you need to strap on multiple watches, bulky global positioning system receivers, or small waistband-clipped pedometers. Synchronizing your iPod will also download your workouts to your computer.

The new Nike+ Air Zoom Moire is the first footwear designed to talk to iPod. Nike plans to make many of its leading footwear styles Nike+ ready, connecting millions of consumers to the Nike+iPod experience. With the Nike+ footwear connected to iPod nano through the Nike+iPod Sport Kit, information on time, distance, calories burned and pace is stored on iPod and displayed on the screen; real-time audible feedback also is provided through headphones. The kit includes an in-shoe sensor and a receiver that attaches to iPod. Braxton Bilbrey is a second grader who swam from Alcatraz to Aquatic Park in San Francisco this morning in 47 minutes. He swam for 2 hours 4 days a week to train for the swim after reading about a 9 year old who had completed it. His parents supported his desire to set the record despite their misgivings about it. His next goal is to swim the English Channel.

Frankly, I am impressed. It is very tough to set long term goals at such a young age, especially ones that require as much work and dedication. I hope that Braxton stays healthy and injury free and that he has a successful competitive career ahead of him. He has the right makeup to do very well in the sports world and I expect that we will be hearing his name quite a bit in 10 years or so.

Sleep.pngOne of the best workout tips that I can offer is adopting a regular sleep schedule. Our bodies have great internal clocks and will generally let us know when we should be awake, when we should be hungry, when we should be hungry or thirsty. One of the best ways to maximize the benefits that your body gets from exercise is to go to bed at the same time every night, and to wake up at the same time every morning. This is not to say you need to get 8 straight hours of sleep; your body may require only 5 or 6 hours of sleep per night. The important thing is going to bed and waking up at the same time every day. This has the following benefits:

Apparantly, there was a rounding error last week when Justin Gatlin broke the world record in the 100 meters. His official timing came through in 9.766, which means that his time should have been manually rounded up to 9.77 before being reported. This means that he did not in fact break the record, he only tied it. Justin Gatlin is now officially tied with Asafa Powell for the 100m world record.

Hopefully, one or the other can break the record later this year. A great race would be where they both break the record in the same meet.

A spokeswoman for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said an alligator had been trapped under the bridge where Ms Jimenez was last seen. Two human arms were found inside its stomach, the spokeswoman added.
