Power walking, race walking, golf, and orienteering come to mind off of the top of my head...

But I agree, the fun things usually involve running. Heheh. Thanks for stopping in, Alberto. How old is your kid?

I'm a Naval Reservist, so I have to run - - - we get tested on the 1.5 miler and I once had to run 3 times that with the Australian Army. I have a kid who's trying to learn to run faster and play better basketball, so I have to run. I love to play basketball and there's a lot of running in that, so I have to run. And while I have no plans to run any further than a 10k, I at least want to run as far as I can and as fast I can without feeling like I'm gonna die. Besides, how many sports involve walking?

For me, running makes my life complete... it gives me mental focus (especially during marathon training), I improve my physical being... there's something spiritual that goes with running.

I love to race because I am competing with myself, the clock and the other runners. I know that I will never win a race and placing in my age group does not happen regularly, but I enjoy the race atmosphere. The competition with myself and what I have done in the past. As someone wrote on a message board "What I lack in speed, I make up with determination"

Thanks for linking to my blog. I love what you said about being "laid bare" when you race. The objective purity of the race is what I crave, too. As I age, its harder and harder to face that reality ... but I don't want to avoid races because of EGO. I am what I am. First, last, or in between.

I run because I am .5 on the BMI index from being obese. OK, well. Not now. I have lost some weight, alot. I run because I have met more great people this way than in the last 20 years of my adult life. Finally, I run because I am my greatest competition, and I'm tired of me telling myself no, you can't. I can. I will.
