I say ZERO. Barefoot running is the key to a long, healthy, injury-free and enlightening (did I mention easier and smoother) way of running -- that nature intended. Barefoot is best, but if/when you need shoes make sure they're not cushioned, with a minimal heel (preferably same midsole height from toe-to-heel).

Happy trails,

Wes,

You should think about getting a second pair and starting to break them in now by alternating them with your current shoes. You might get another 200 miles out of them, but then again you might not. I firmly believe in getting my money's worth out of a pair of shoes, but I don't want to wear shoes that are going to injure me and have no problems throwing them out once they've reached their limit.

I wished I had more running shoes that have 350 miles on them and are still in pretty good shape.

I have a pair of "everything else" sports shoe. And I have a pair of dress shoes that are on their 9th set of soles.

This summer when I am back in the US, I plan to pick up at least 2 pair of running shoes.

Hee, hee. I have ONE pair of running shoes. It has 300 miles on it, so I'm 200 mile away from replacing them. I did get a nice pair of casual walking shoes for every day though :-) I'm really looking forward to getting my next pair as I intend to get some professional help this time.
