Every race I have run here in Mexico has had water in bags. You just bite a corner off the bag and suck the water out. If you bite the hole big enough you can down it pretty quickly.

I usually bite a small hole in it and drink what I want. Then I hold the bag and just squeeze it every so often and have the water shoot on to me.

This is probably a reflection of my running pace more than it is the system, but using the bags, I have never had to slow down to drink and have never broken stride in the process. I don't know what I would do if I showed up for a race which used cups instead of bags.
