It was a fun run, although I agree with your assessment that as it stands it is a little longer than 12 miles right now. That last 2.4 mile loop was quite the treat.

And as for your first fall, you'll quickly learn that putting your hands down is not necessarily a good idea; a bruised shoulder is a lot easier to deal with than a broken wrist. Thankfully, there was no lasting damage.

yes, i ran my first serious trail run with a few guys from the trails monsters today. We ran at Bradbury Mountain, the home of the bradbury bruiser 12 miler in October (the 28th i believe). I had a blast, a challenging blast, but nonetheless a blast, but i did find out first hand why they call it the Bradbury 12mile, or so.

I was probably a mile in, maybe a little more, feeling good, feeling somewhat confident, when i found myself in unfamiliar territory; i was going into a fall before i realized it might be a good idea to put my hand down to stop myself from eating an early lunch. Yum, grubs and dirt; i was definitely disturbing nature on that one, Huh guys? Well, despite a few scraps and "bruises," i was back up in a hurry. I did not want to linger there in the middle of the trail, after all, there were bikers coming from behind us. I suppose your wondering if i was chided by my fellow runner's, no...they were actually concerned, snickering but concerned.

Concern massages you for so long, then slam, 10 miles left. I remember saying, "this is fun Ian,"where upon he responded, "we have 10 miles left on this trail, you might change your mind." At that point, still beaming from my new found obsession, something i had been toying with internally for a few months, i laughed and kind of dismissed the comment. But as the twists and turns of that soon-to-be L.L Bean sponsored masterpiece toiled on, i realized the immediate benefits of trail running.

I love it.

Bob,

I have forwarded your comment over to Ian.

Even if the race stays early (which I have to assume that it will since they have already begun advertising it), you can still look on the bright side. I won't be home that weekend and can not run it at all!

Oh well, at least I get to run the course tomorrow morning.

Would like to let Ian know that his Brad Bruiser race sounds like a great idea...But why start so early AM for a 12 mile race. Any racers like me coming from Rhode Island or CT have a few hours to drive. 10:00 Start would make it possible for us.

Thanks in advance for considering the out of town runners.

Here In Australia I live by the Glasshouse Mountains in South East Queensland home to the Glasshouse 100 mile trail run. It has seen a number of competitors from all over the world have a go at a rugged and challenging course . Members of my running club have competed, as well we mark and man the aid stations. I will put up some footage and story if anybody is interested. We hold several distances over the course I pike out at the 30k race thats enough for me. After all I am just a scum triathlete :-)
