Fixed. I considered putting the names of the people that asked the questions with each one, but decided against it. Sorry that I recorded it wrong; I took 20 pages of notes and was writing non-stop, so other than a couple of actual quotes (as noted above) a few items may have been changed a wee bit in translation.

Hey Blaine, great summary of Joan's interview. It was such a pleasure to finally meet her. I remember distinctly watching her Olympic win on t.v., and have read both her books, "Running Tide" and "Running for Women". Unfortunately, as some people tend to make fools of themselves when they meet someone they deeply admire, I did so that evening. For one, I told her I would love her autograph -- on the back of some expired flyer, as I had unfortunately left her book at home on the shelf. THEN, I couldn't seem to recall the name of either book she wrote, AND I added insult to injury (pun intended) when I brought up the stupid question about "Stiffness and aging". There is so much I wanted to ask her (much more glamourous questions), but as I sat in my chair following that evening's run, and everything hurt, I really wanted to know what she does to deal with that. AND, for the record, I said "What do you do to combat stiffness as WE age?" I did not say "in your old age". Please change the question to reflect what I said....(it was much more about me that her). I'm mortified enough as it is! :(

Thanks so much!

Nice to find this interview. I ran as a fun runner in the 1983 London Marathon. Grete Waitz won the lady's race with a new world best, only for Joan to set a new world best (if my memory serves me correctly), within days!

My marathon running days are long since behind me and my new passion is Nordic Walking, so it is great to know that Joan spoke so positively about Nordic Walking. Nordic Walking is an amazing activity and deserves all the positive publicity it can get.
