		<description>We do lots of this in Minnesota as well and you&#039;re right about using ice fishermen as a means to determine when the ice is &#039;safe&#039; - it&#039;s what I generally go by before venturing out!

		<description>The screw driver trick is no joke. They used to sell ice picks where one point when into a hole in it&#039;s companions cork handle. the cork handles would prevent them from sinking if the got away from you in the water. Then you can wear them around your neck on a string with out jabbing yourself. 

You really do need them to get out of deep water onto wet ice by yourself.

Take a cell phone to call for help for yourself or a fisher person.</description>
