BLaine,

Long time man, i have not been able to put together an article for the publication due to my own work.

Running has been going pretty well, training for Vermont. I noticed that you're book is finished; that is great Blaine. Any time one can put together that much information in a meaningful and concise format it is an accomplishment. Good Job.

Let's run at Bradbury sometime with the team. I need to mix up the terrain a bit.

Yeah, that sounds like it would do the trick. My method that I used in high school that got my heart rate into the 230s was a ladder workout on a track. I'll give the hill workout a shot next week if the weather holds out well enough to keep it safe.

As for the footpod, I didn't realize you could get one for the 305. I think that I'll pass, though; if I'm running indoors I can just count laps if I care enough to know exactly how far I went.

Hey Blaine. Short of having your heart rate max tested in a lab setting, John Parker has a pretty accurate test regime. He suggests finding a relatively steep hill 200 to 300 meters in length. After a two or so mile warm up, run the hill five times, increasing the intensity with each repeat. Make sure the final time your tongue is dragging and you are about ready to pass out when you crest the top. The HR you see within two seconds of stopping will likely be darn close to your MHR.

Good luck and get the FR305 optional footpod if you plan on running inside a lot.

Wes - if you look at the "map" you'll see that I was indoors, so it wasn't particularly accurate. I put it there as a joke. I was just surprised that there was any signal at all.

Good thoughts on the specific point auto lap, though - I hadn't thought of that. I'll have to give that a try this Summer when the snow melts and I can get onto the track outside. I'm currently using the 1 mile autolap when I'm outside.

Another nice thing about the Garmin is you can set it up to auto interval (lap). It will record it at a distance or at a specific place (if you are on a track for instance). Very handy!!
