How To Stop Gasping For Air During A Race w/o Slowing Down
Last night, there was a Yoga for Runners clinic at the Maine Running Company presented by Michael Gaige. He shared a lot of tips on how to effectively implement yoga into your regular routine and pointed out the benefits and dangers. Runners have some special concerns that they need to be aware of.
Afterwards, he was available for questions and answers, and my wife managed to get this great tip out of him. The question she is asking was about the proper way to breath during the yoga, but Michael went on to explain how that can affect your breathing during a race and how to prevent yourself from gasping for air without having to slow down.
Take a look:

I was unfortunately not able to attend the Michael’s clinic so THANK YOU for this video sharing this great tip. I had never heard of that technique and I am certainly going to try it next time I run – if I even can run again… after I get rid of that #$%&#$ cast… [sighs]
Thank you also to Erin for asking sun an interesting question!
Too bad I miss you there, guys…

Alan – this was not actually part of his presentation, it was a side comment being made in response to a question. The presentation itself was over at this point; I just happened to catch this Q&A on video as people were leaving.
