I love using a running log because of the story it tells. I often find myself flipping through the pages of previous running logs and getting really caught up in the training I was doing, not only a week or month ago, but a year or several years prior. It is amazing what I suddenly remember after reading a brief entry in my logs.

As for the type of log I use, I still prefer the paper bound running log. In fact if you are interested, my wife and I are in the process of creating a Maine Running Log - you can check it out at www.mainerunninglogs.com

Wes,

I was using Sports Tracks & GTC too until a week or two ago when Eric finished the GPS import. Now I only use RA - no need for the other tools. (I'll still use GTC to set up advanced workouts or downloading maps to the watch that I can follow while running, but haven't had a need to do that yet.)

John,

I use Running Ahead, which is far and away my favorite training log. I haven't tested all of them, but I have tested about a dozen and a half different solutions and have had as many as 6 going at once while testing. I've been using RA pretty exclusively for a couple years now and have been very happy with them and with the owner of the site who does a great job supporting and improving it.

If you look at Runner's World, you'll see that they licensed an old version of Running Ahead from a few years ago. That's how good it is.

I recently started logging my workouts (on AttackPoint) and after just a few months I can see benefits such as you're describing.

The log doesn't lie!

I don't really use log to review history, but more for a simple sense of accomplishment. I have a training schedule and when I log the run (or any other exercise) I get a mental check mark for getting one thing off of my list of items for the day. My question is which log do you use and why? I currently have at least 3 - my Garmin log file, an excel file with my training schedule and Logyourrun.com so it will display to my blog. I have asked this question on other sites but if it is answered it is by someone with a service that they want to sell.
