Bernard Lagat Runs 12:54.12 For a New 5000m American Record

Bernard Lagat set a new 5000 meter American Record earlier today when he ran 12:54.12 for a 3rd place overall finish at the ExxonMobile Bislett Games in Oslo. That’s 2.15 seconds faster than Dathan Ritzenhein’s previous record of 12:56.27, which was set last August at the Weltklasse Meet in Zurich.
Chris Solinsky was close behind, running a personal best 12:56.66 to finish as the 2nd American and 6th overall.
Imane Merga of Ethiopia won the race with a personal best 12:53.81, less than a third of a second ahead of Lagat.
