World Marathon Majors: 2010 New York City Marathon

The New York City Marathon is always the last race of the year for the World Marathon Majors. For 2009-2010, the results of this race won’t make any difference in the long run as both Sammy Wanjiru and Lillya Shobukhova have the title locked up. (Well, technically Sammy could lose, but it isn’t likely to [...]

2010 Mount Desert Island Marathon

I had the pleasure of volunteering at the 2010 Mount Desert Island Marathon and had my camera out to capture some video at the starting line and at the half-marathon point. I also got a few interviews at the finish line once everybody had passed through the half marathon. The race couldn’t have been run [...]

How To Improve the Boston Marathon Registration Process

The 2011 Boston Marathon sold out in around 9 hours yesterday. While it’s great that the sport is going so strongly, races selling out 6 months before they are even run leads to a really poor customer experience for the runners. It’s stressful and seems odd that the people with the best chance of getting [...]

Marathoners Are Lucky – Blog Action Day 2010

Blog Action Day is a time when authors from all over the internet write about a single topic, and this year’s topic is about the availability (or lack of) water in many developing nations. My Initial Thoughts on the Saucony Kinvara Running Shoes

There’s a new (or at least revisited) trend in the running shoe industry to build more “minimalist” or “naturalist” type shoes that don’t alter our gait quite as much as a traditional stability shoe. Wife Carrying Competitions and Mountain Epics

This past weekend was a busy one for racing. In the Portland area was the Craig Cup, which is the USATF-ME cross country championship race. Up at Sunday River, though, there were races both days. On Saturday was the North American Wife Carrying Competition, which oddly enough doesn’t require that the participants be married, just [...]

Defining a New “Normal” In Your Training

What does it mean to define a new normal in your training? Mike over at Fit36 posed that very question and answered it by following his own training progression as he has gotten fitter over the Summer. He just started running this past Spring and when he got started, he could run about 2 miles [...]

World Marathon Majors: 2010 Chicago Marathon

The World Marathon Majors 2009-2010 season will most likely be decided tomorrow, as all of the top players in both the men’s and women’s races are running Chicago so none of the New York City runners are in contention unless there are some major upsets. The Americans should be able to put in a strong [...]

Back to Back (Part 3): The Maine Marathon

This past weekend I ran my first back-to-back marathons with the New Hampshire Marathon on Saturday and the Maine Marathon on Sunday. I came into this race feeling really good despite having run a marathon the day before other than a small muscle pull that I got relatively early into the previous race. The goal [...]
