Yesterday I took my new camera to the Craig Cup 5k and got some footage of the race. The first video includes the starting line instructions and dedications for the race, as well as the start of the race itself.

The second video includes the runners’ transitions between the “A” and “B” loops on the trails. The runners moving from the left to the right are just past the 1 mile marker, while the runners moving from the right to the left are just past the 2 mile marker. This is the first time that there have been runners going back into the “A” loop before everybody was done exiting it the first time.

This morning held perfect cross country racing weather for fast times at the Craig Cup Run for Life 5k at Twin Brooks Recreation Center in Cumberland, Maine. 104 runners crossed the line in temperatures in the low 60s with a breeze that wasn’t strong enough to find its way into the trees.

Ethan Hemphill had some good competition midway through the race, but managed to pull ahead for an 11 second lead over Jeff Sprague (16:44) and Robert Gomez (16:48) for a winning time of 16:33.

Carry Buterbaugh had a larger lead over Christine Reaser (20:19), and was the only woman under 20 minutes with a time of 19:31. Jeanne Hackett was 3rd in 20:40.

I did not run this year, instead volunteering to help out. I did get some video footage of the race, which will be available tomorrow.

Miss running cross country? Now is your chance! The Craig Cup 5k is this Saturday at 9:00 at Twin Brook Recreation Center in Cumberland, Maine. The future of the race was not too certain up until a few weeks ago, but Jeff Walker has stepped up to the plate to keep the race alive.

The race is a part of the USATF-ME Grand Prix and will count towards the minimum of 6 races necessary to score in the series. The Craig Cup race has a brand new website, which you can see at: http://www.craigcup.org/start.html

If you are going to be there early or don’t plan on running, volunteers are still needed. Those helping with registration should be there by 7:15 am, those who want to help on the course should be there by 8:00 am, and those who just want to run should by there around 8:00 as well unless you are pre-registered.

Here is a map of the course: (Click here to continue reading…)
