This week last year was dominated by baseball, with a few fitness tips and a story about some stupid referees.

There were also some minor tweaks and improvements done to the site, some of which I believe have been undone.

The Juventus soccer club in Italy has recently been given a very hefty fine for match fixing. They have threatened to bring the matter before an administrative court to plead their case that they do not deserve such harsh penalties. There is a small problem with that course of action, however.

About a month ago, Robert Hoyzer and 5 other referrees went on trial for fixing German soccer games. Robert Hoyzer has been sentenced to 29 months for his part in the scandal. He had accepted £46,000 and a television as his compensation. Ante Sapina, who organized the match fixing, got almost 3 years in jail.

FIFA is giving the goal line technology a second go in Liverpool at the end of the year. When FIFA has its annual meeting in Zurich next March, they will decide whether or not to implement the technology for the World Cup. They have not yet decided if it is an asset or a distraction for the referees.

I am still excited to see how this technology pans out. The test went well at the under-17 championship, and it was not the worst thing to ever happen to the game by any stretch of the imagination. The world certainly did not end in fire and brimstone, at any rate.
