World Wide HalfThe results of the Phedippidations World Wide Half Marathon are now available on the website. The results are not yet complete, so they will be constantly updating as more people report their finishing time. As of when I am writing this, 112 of the 562 participants have reported in.

The results show where everybody ran, their race report, and for some people an audio clip of their report and/or a race picture.

My results are nothing to be too excited about for a half marathon time, but since it came after a cross country 5k and was run in the middle of a 21 mile long run, I’m happy with it.

World Wide HalfHave you ever run a half marathon, or have you ever wanted to? Steve Runner, the host of the internet radio show Phedippidations, has organized a half marathon race that takes places in 23 different countries this weekend. The half marathon is a mutual race run by people all over the world either this Saturday or Sunday, October 7-8,with a few exceptions that have already run and a few running the weekend after. It is a great community building event, and Steve’s latest podcast is a collection of a lot of contributors cheering people on. I even heard a random person cheer for me on the podcast. (Yes, I listened to it already; I don’t run with headphones on so I figured I could listen early.) Steve sent out the official welcome letter a few minutes ago, and here’s a passage from it that I thought I would share:

Maine Today PhotoA couple of weeks ago I was interviewed by a woman from the Portland Press Herald about my habits listening to podcasts, particularly the Phedippidations show produced by Steve Walker.

The article was published in today’s paper, and despite the article not being about me (it just includes a few quotes), a picture of me is taking up about 1/3 of the front of the inside section that it appears in. A small sidebox appears on the front page of the paper that tells folk to look inside to read the story, which to my mind means I made the front page, right? Both pictures are above the fold, even.

Very exciting for myself, and hopefully of at least marginal interest to you.

Maine Today front page screenshotMaine Today.com has the picture on it’s home page (at least for the moment). Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear on the article itself. The home page article is not going to last very long, but here is a screenshot that you can click on to get a larger version.

I recently wrote about Phedippidations, a podcast by Steve Walker for and about running. At Strength News, Chris has listed some of his favorite podcasts that he has been recently discovering. Check out his page for a short list of fitness and strength training related podcasts.

Last week I discovered Phedippidations over at SteveRunner.com. I have been working my way through the archives and have gotten through almost 20 of the episodes already. Steve is a middle of the pack marathoner who records the majority of his show on his Sunday long runs, and then edits it together into (something of) a cohesive whole. He has episodes recorded during races, including the Lowell, Cape Cod, and Boston marathons.
