Vitali Klitschko has retired, making Hasim Kahman the official WBC heavyweight champion. Their title-bout fight had to be postponed four times due to Klitschko’s injuries, which led to him deciding he should retire from boxing.

There are two things that I get from this news. First, I think it is a good idea for an athlete to step down when they feel they can no longer perform at acceptable levels (for themselves), and I applaud Klitschko for not trying to hang on longer than he realistically can. Second, Don King now represents all four heavyweight champions (WBA, WBC, WBO, and IBF), and has plans to stage a tournament between the men. I would love to see those fights, and I hope that it becomes a reality.
