Minnesota Vikings are building a new stadium
The Minnesota Vikings are going to build themselves a new stadium. This was announced right around the same time that ownership was going on about how safe their head coach’s job is, right now. My guess is: Out with the old, in with the new!
Seriously, though, their new home will be a 68,000 seat retractable roof stadium in Blaine, Minnesota (gotta love that town’s name!) The new stadium will cost about $675 million, and is slated to open in 2009 or 2010. The Vikings organization would pay for $280 million of the building and would be bound to a 30 year lease with the option for 2 10-year extensions. Anoka County would fund an additional $280 million from a 0.75% sales tax. The state would cover the remaining $115 million through bonds.
The article has some links at the bottom to concept art drawings for the planned construction.
