Last week, I reviewed the DVD of Run For Your Life, which follows the life of Fred Lebow as he brought about and grew the New York City Marathon.
Screen Media Films is providing me with 5 copies of the DVD to give away. Yesterday through tomorrow, you will have an opportunity to win a copy through the website by leaving a comment on the daily contest article answering a specific question, which will be asked after yesterday’s winner is announced. I will randomly choose one commenter each day from people that comment on that day’s article.
I will also be giving away 2 copies to people that belong to my Running Tips Newsletter, so you have until Thursday morning to join my newsletter so that you can receive instructions about how to win one of those two copies through your email.
Be sure to get to a screening of the movie sometime this week in New York City, if you are in the area. And if you don’t win a copy of the movie this week through these contests, then be sure to pick up a copy after it is released later today on DVD.
Now, here is yesterday’s winner:
Watch “Run For Your Life” DVD Contest ยป Day 1
This is the article for today’s contest. Just leave a comment below answering this question for a chance to win the first DVD:
What was your time in either your 1st or your most recent marathon? If you haven’t run a marathon, then what was the time you ran for your last race and how far was it? If you have never raced, then what was the time for a race a family member or friend ran, and how do you know them? If you don’t know anybody that has run a race, then how did you originally find this website?
It’s an easy question, and I will not be fact checking. As with yesterday, you can link to today’s contest from your website and leave a second comment that includes the URL to the page that you linked from for a second chance to win the DVD. Anybody else leaving a second comment will have that comment deleted, and anybody’s first comment that doesn’t include a race time or other answer to the above question will have their comment deleted.
If you want to have a chance to win the 2 DVDs at the end of the week, then you will need to join my email newsletter before Thursday; if you are already on the newsletter then you are all set and will get instructions later in the week automatically! As a bonus, I am still giving away my free report about the 3 components of an Effective Workout Report. You can sign up from the newsletter description page, by entering your name and email in the sign up box above and to the right, or by just entering your information here:
If you don’t like how this contest is different, then you can blame Steve W and Tika Wright for putting the idea in my head. Also note that there are a few additions to the contest rules and disclaimers going forward, although they are not particularly exciting.
Contest rules and disclaimers:
- There are 5 copies of the DVD being given away, and they will be mailed postage paid to anyone within the continental United States. (I am not sure if this movie is playable outside of the United States or not.)
- I will be the complete and final judge. I can change the rules on a whim. The winner will be chosen by random drawing through the use of the website, random.org.
- I will make my best effort to package and mail the DVD in new condition, but will not be responsible for any damage or loss that may occur during shipping.
- For each DVD, one (1) entry per person is allowed, as well as one entry per website. Subsequent entries from any given person will be deleted and ignored.
- Each daily contest will be open to comments the day that the article goes up announcing it through the next morning when I get around to closing comments. Comments are guaranteed to be open only for the remainder of that day.
- If you win and do not get back to me within 2 days, then I reserve the right to give the prize to somebody else.
- I will make my best effort to contact the winner, but a valid email address must be left in the comments. If a trackback wins, then I will do my best to find a contact link on the web page linking to here, but if I do not see one then you will have to look back at this site to see if you have won.
- Local laws, rules, and regulations apply. No purchase is necessary.
- If you won a copy of the DVD already in one of these 5 contests, then you are not eligible to win a second copy.
- I may or may not continue to show the winner in video format, we’ll see how many problems people have with it.
- Clarification: As mentioned above, you can leave a 2nd comment if it links to your own website where you mention today’s contest. However, it can not be from the same blog post or page and must link to today’s contest to be eligible for today’s second comment allowance.
Well done to Greg for winning Monday’s contest.
My most recent marathon time is 2:51:36 at Frederick, MD in May 2008.
Thanks for a great contest Blaine,
–Steve
My most recent race was also the WWFoR. So far I’ve only participated in 5Ks and my time for the Kick the Couch 5K was 32:09. Thanks.
Well, I have not yet run my first marathon because of an injury in my last race…..
But…
My last race… that I finished… was a 5k in 23:23.
Thanks for the opportunity!
Tim
I ran my first 10K at the WWFOR and completed it in 1 hour and 6 minutes. I charted my own course and was pleased with my time and run! I love getting your running tips and appreciate your contest!
Thanks!

Hi Blaine,
Last marathon was 3:42 for a trail/XC course. An improvement of 38 mins on the same race last year. Next year I WILL run under 3hrs on the road… maybe.
Thanks for the contest, Blaine.

My last race was a 5k, coming off on injury I ran a 22:42.
My most recent marathon time is 3:57:50, but I have plans to run 3:30 or less come April 2009.
Hi Blaine,
I have not run a marathon yet, though I am training for one in the spring. My most recent race was a 5k that I finished in 20:59, a new PR. I was shooting for sub-21, and I just barely made it.
My first marathon time was 3:40 (Marine Corps, 1997)
No marathon yet, but my last race was 38:58 for 5 miles (www.ausherman5miles.com) on Aug 9th. I was pleasantly surprised with a pace about 15 seconds per mile faster than I thought I could do.
My last marathon was the Chicago Marathon 5:14:34.
I ran my second race Sunday, pitching in to run the first leg of the cape cod marathon relay, which was 5k. I ran it in 29 minutes, 36 seconds.
Oops.
Last marathon was Portland and I ran it in ~4:40.
My first marathon was 5:54:20. My last race was a 50 miler 9:05:31. Can’t run fast run long…
I have not run a marathon yet, but hope to run a 1/2 in Dec. My last race was the U Can Finish 5 Miler which I finished in 57:24.
My first marathon was a hilly and slow 5:49:14, my most recent marathon was a 4:54:59!
My most recent marathon was the Maine marathon with a time of 3:19:28. I am running the New York marathon and will be looking for a 3:15:00 we’ll see.
Thanks Blaine.
My first and only marathon was 4:22:31. My most recent race was a 5K in 22:27. 10K coming up this weekend.
I ran my first and only marathon in 4 hrs 45 mns. In the sleet. ;-(
A 3:25:54 first marathon a few weeks ago! Thanks Blaine for the chance to win a DVD!!
I ran the Yarmouth 5k Pumpkin Run in 29:49 on Saturday. A PR for me! My 10-year-old daughter ran it in 26:28. I never saw her once, she was so far ahead of me.
CONGRATULATIONS, Greg! Enjoy your movie! ๐
What was your time in either your first or your most recent Marathon?
3:30:36 (gun time) and 3:28:47 (net time) Portland Marathon Relay – No complete Marathon on my own yet, but this was my first Marathon Relay. ๐
Now, I am not sure you count Marathon Relay as a Marathon, so I am also answering the subsidiary question:
If you haven’t run a Marathon, then what was the time you ran for your last race and how far was it?
My last race on my own was a 5K, and my time was 25:08 minutes (not a PR…)
I have posted Contest #2 in my blog! [grin]

I ran the 2007 Manchester City Marathon in 3:44 for my first, Providence this Spring in 3:33, and a couple of weeks ago I qualified for Boston with 3:22 at BayState.
First marathon was a 4:12 in Harrisburg, PA.
My first and only marathon so far was the 2007 Portland Marathon. I ran a 2:59:25.

The longest race I have run is the Army 10 miler In washingston DC. I finished in 1:02:16 and was very pleased with that!
Most recent race was the Great Pumpkin 10k in Camp Ellis- finished in 38:08.
1st marathon
Chicago Marathon, 2001
2:50:20
My first marathon was Marine Corps in 2004. I had horrible IT Band problems all summer. I was feeling pain at mile 5 but managed to finish in 5:51. It was horrible, but I was going to earn that medal if I had to crawl across the finish line! It almost came to that!
My most recent marathon was also my first. I completed the Indianapolis Marathon a week and a half ago in 4:32:10.
No marathon yet- planning on Akron in 2010. Longest race is a 10k in 56 min which beat my goal time of one hour. Building my base now that I didn’t have then. 20 mpw now and starting next week I increase that onward and upwards. Planning on two HM in 2009
First marathon in Calgary — 3:55-ish many moons ago.
Comments are now closed for today’s contest, come back in a little while to see who won. Sorry for anybody who didn’t answer the question and had to have their comment deleted.
