Last week, I reviewed the DVD of Run For Your Life, which follows the life of Fred Lebow as he brought about and grew the New York City Marathon.
Screen Media Films is providing me with 5 copies of the DVD to give away. Monday through today, you will have an opportunity to win a copy through the website by leaving a comment on the daily contest article answering a specific question, which will be asked after yesterday’s winner is announced. I will randomly choose one commenter each day from people that comment on that day’s article.
I will also be giving away 2 copies to people that belong to my Running Tips Newsletter, so you have until tomorrow morning to join my newsletter so that you can receive instructions about how to win one of those two copies through your email.
Be sure to get to a screening of the movie sometime this week in New York City, if you are in the area. And if you don’t win a copy of the movie this week through these contests, then be sure to pick up a copy after it is released later today on DVD.
Now, here is the winner of the second DVD:
Watch “Run For Your Life” DVD Contest ยป Day 2
This is the article for today’s contest. Just leave a comment below answering this question for a chance to win the first DVD:
How long have you been running?
It’s an easy question, and I will not be fact checking. I have been running for around 18 years or so at this point, since I was in middle school.
As with the last two days, you can link to today’s contest from your website and leave a second comment that includes the URL to the page that you linked from for a second chance to win the DVD. Anybody else leaving a second comment will have that comment deleted, and anybody’s first comment that doesn’t answer the above question will have their comment deleted.
If you want to have a chance to win the 2 DVDs tomorrow, then you will need to join my email newsletter before mid-morning; if you are already on the newsletter then you are all set and will get instructions later in the week automatically! As a bonus, I am still giving away my free report about the 3 components of an Effective Workout Report. You can sign up from the newsletter description page, by entering your name and email in the sign up box above and to the right, or by just entering your information here:
Contest rules and disclaimers:
- There are 5 copies of the DVD being given away, and they will be mailed postage paid to anyone within the continental United States. (I am not sure if this movie is playable outside of the United States or not.)
- I will be the complete and final judge. I can change the rules on a whim. The winner will be chosen by random drawing through the use of the website, random.org.
- I will make my best effort to package and mail the DVD in new condition, but will not be responsible for any damage or loss that may occur during shipping.
- For each DVD, one (1) entry per person is allowed, as well as one entry per website. Subsequent entries from any given person will be deleted and ignored.
- Each daily contest will be open to comments the day that the article goes up announcing it through the next morning when I get around to closing comments. Comments are guaranteed to be open only for the remainder of that day.
- If you win and do not get back to me within 2 days, then I reserve the right to give the prize to somebody else.
- I will make my best effort to contact the winner, but a valid email address must be left in the comments. If a trackback wins, then I will do my best to find a contact link on the web page linking to here, but if I do not see one then you will have to look back at this site to see if you have won.
- Local laws, rules, and regulations apply. No purchase is necessary.
- If you won a copy of the DVD already in one of these 5 contests, then you are not eligible to win a second copy.
- I may or may not continue to show the winner in video format, we’ll see how many problems people have with it.
- Clarification: As mentioned above, you can leave a 2nd comment if it links to your own website where you mention today’s contest. However, it can not be from the same blog post or page and must link to today’s contest to be eligible for today’s second comment allowance.
Don’t forget to let me know how long you have been running or else your comment is going to be deleted, and if you aren’t a runner then just say so, that’s fine.
I started running races Nov 2006 with the Fort Worth Turkey Trot 10K. It was the first time I did 6.2 miles and actually ran the entire race. I could say I started running on a somewhat regular basis in 2003. At the time, I would do a mile run or 100m intervals (run the straightaway and walk the turns on a 400m track), but a majority of the time I was just walking.
Been a runner since high school, so 12 years altogether. But of those I’ve only been an active runner about 8 years. 6 years running, 3 years off, 3 years running. Hopefully I don’t fall off the wagon again.
Thanks for the contest!
I started running track in 8th grade… We’ll say that was in spring of 1995. Dang, 13 years of running!
I’ve been running for almost four years.
I have been running for almost two years at this go around.
I started running in High School, but then stopped running for almost 20 years. I just started running again almost 2 years ago.
I starting running via C25K program the last week of April 2008. Hated running at first, but am now an addict. Have run 5k/10k races and am now building up base mileage this fall/winter to run the HM in spring 2009.
Thank you for the chance to win.
First race was a two miler in 2002, but have only been running consistently for about four years. I really wish I had started earlier in life, but better late than never.
Started running in the early 80’s to keep fit for High School rugby and football and have been hooked ever since….
I guess that accounts for about a quarter century of running. Here’s to the next 25!
–Steve
I began running when I was about 10- ran through freshman year of high school- about 15. Then off and on-mostly to stay in shape until picking it back up serioulsy this year.
So I would say about 6 or 7 years.
I’ve run on and off since I was a teenager. But I have been back at it for more than 3 years without any sort of break. I’m sure at this point, it’s here to stay as a part of my life!
I started running on a regular basis in Middle School in the year of 1999. So its been almost a solid 10 years. Now its time to take the step up to the Marathon in Spring 09.
I have been running on and off since 1987. (More off than on.)
I ran cross-country and track in high school but did not keep with it during college. I ran occasionally but with no real goal or purpose. In 1998 I resumed running with the intention of running a marathon. After an IT band issue derailed me I took another 7 years off and played hockey instead. For some unknow reason I resumed running in 2007 and am now logging 50 mile weeks with a marathon and ultra on my schedule.
Ran for four years in college, took 15 or so years off, and been back at it for three years now.
I’ve been running all my life… Err… I mean I’ve been running from stuff most of my life – work, relationships, life… Took up running 2 years ago as a replacement. For the most part, it has worked. Life has caught up with me and I am better for it.
I have been running for just about a year. I used to hate it in high school, but I used the C25K program to run my first 5k, and now I look forward to getting out to run!
My military husband has dragged me into running back in 2000. Before that, I was mostly a Cyclist but running has really helped me to catch my breath when I quit smoking and when the US food started to add up on my hips…
Then, I had two kids and I ran on and off whenever I had the opportunity to step out of the house, with or without a stroller.
After completing C25K last October I ran my first 5K road race in March 2008, then a week later I started training for my first 10K that I ran in July.
Since then, I have run a few more races, I have joined a great running group and I have been running consistantly 4 times a week, covering a weekly average distance of 20 miles.
My next goal is to run my first Half Marathon next year and my first Marathon (the whole distnace on my own) in 2010.
Although I am not a fast runner, Running has brought positivity and a great feeling of completion into my life. I am enjoying my “me” time everytime I pass the door for a round, and I am about to run my second 10K race on Saturday.
I started running on June 29. I have run 45 times since then, averaging slightly less than 3 miles per run. Run 46 will be tonight.

I have been running since I was a kid and forced to in PE class. Once I got to high school my running consisted of increments of 90 feet (baseball). In early 2007, I decided it was time to try a new challenge and wanted to do a half marathon. So I would say that Spring 2007 is when I started running, and havent really stopped since.
I started running in 8th grade too. I was 12, which was 21 years ago. OUCH!
I started running in July 2004. I had never been a runner before that, and in fact I hated running as a kid. But once I realized that you don’t have to push hard on every single run, it made running a lot more enjoyable. I’ve been running regularly ever since.
It’s only been very recently for me. I started running this past June as part of a weight loss plan and now am just so in love with it that I will continue just for the sport even after I lose the weight. My first race was September 14th. Blaine came in 6th, I came in 248th. I guess I’ve got a ways to go.
I have been running for a year and a half.
Although I was involved in sports through my school years (long ago) and some of the training included running, I can’t consider those years as part of my running career.
Running is more enjoyable now than I could have wished for back then.
I tried running about 4 years ago, but didn’t last long. This time, it’s been almost exactly two years. I’ve gone from not being able to run two minutes straight to running over 10 miles non-stop.
I started running track when I was 11 (I was a high jumper for a year before that we won’t count that year). So that means I have been running for 23 years now.
I’ve been running for longer than I care to admit given my current performance (since 1994).
I ran a few times and really started running 2001 because of high blood presure. My doctor talk to me about try to get into better shape and not have to take meds. I then started running on a corporate track team and do road races. I set goals for myself and wanted to run the B2B that year and work my way up to a marathon. But have had some set backs with hamstring problems so did mostly 5K and 10K. This year i’ve run the most races since I started running and my longest was the Army 10 miler. I hope to do a half and then some day do a marathon.
Thanks
I started running properly about 6 years ago while training for my first marathon. I caught the bug and am now hooked on long distance running, marathons and ultramarathon. Great challenge and great people.
I started running February 2004 after a scare which I spent the night in ER as they thought I might have had a heart attack. Turns out after all the tests that is was acid reflux. Cardiologist said that I was on the way though with my non active life style and weight, so I began to run. All told 4+ years.
Posted to the blog as well. See it here.

Coming very close to 3 years. It was a cold December day in 2005 when I started.
I’ve been running 4 years this month. I started when I turned 50.
I started running on the request of one of my son’s. All my kids ran in school and all but one still do ……I stated in 2002 and never stopped…I have a hard time understanding why I didn’t start sooner…but anyway in 6 years I have run from a 1 mile race all the way up to a 25K X-country and a marathon. My goal in the spring is to run a 50k …….hope I make it…
Here is my second chance to win….I need this DVD!!

Thanks for entering today’s contest!
Didn’t have to delete any entries today, I don’t think, so this must have been the better question to ask. Too bad my web host was having problems Tuesday night through yesterday afternoon that prevented people from participating.
Wednesday’s winner will be announced shortly.
