Last night was the 5th Back Cove Weekly 5k, and was my 3rd as I missed the past couple of weeks.
Cooler temperatures and a little precipitation didn’t deter 187 people from coming out to race. There was a good contingent of college guys that just finished their outdoor track seasons that came to mix it up a little, crossing the line in 17:03. I was about 20 seconds behind them. Abbey Gosling had a pretty comfortable 52 seconds lead in the women’s race.
Don Penta was there taking photos; I’ll update this post with a link to them once they are available.

Blaine,
I have a question about this weekly race series. Do you really *race* these every week, i.e. run them all out, or do you hold back a bit? If you run them all out, do you worry about injury or maybe burning out? I do a weekly race series with my running club, but I’m hesitant to run them all out for fear of injury.
Thanks,
Eddie
It depends upon the week. I usually run with my wife a few weeks, and most of them I probably concentrate on doing some sort of intervals with people to chase down, rather than running all out. 2 years ago I wound up winning it so I ran more of them towards the end as a race when there was a possibility of getting free shoes for a year, whereas last year I was there every week and took a few more weeks to run with my wife or to do intervals and didn’t really race more than a handful of them.
