The Maine Trash Runners are gearing up for their first run 10 days from now on May 15, 2010, and you can take part!

Here are the details of the run:

Our inaugural trash run will bring us to the home of Danny’s on the Mall, Bowdoin College, and Frontier Café.

Now that the snow has melted, it has exposed piles of trash lining Harpswell Rd through the Brunswick Town Commons. Let’s get out there and give the commons a facelift, trash runner style.

We will meet at 10am in the parking lot of Frontier Café. From there, we will run up Maine St, through Bowdoin College, and jump on the connector trail to the commons. Once in the commons, we will do a loop through some of the trails. We will then head to the parking lot of the commons off Harpswell Rd to start the clean up around 10:45am. This run is about 4 miles.

The focus of the clean up will be the approximate ¾ mile stretch of Harpswell Rd that runs along the commons. Depending on how many people we have, this should take us about 1 ½ hours.

Once we are finished cleansing the commons, we will run back down to Frontier to enjoy some post trash picking refreshments.

If you want to join the clean up, but not the run from Frontier and back, please feel free to meet us at the parking lot of the Commons around 10:45am. The parking lot is on the right hand side of Harpswell Rd about 1 mile from Maine Pine Racquet & Fitness.

If any brave souls want to continue on with the trashiness, we can head over to Lion’s Pride later that afternoon to enjoy Hop Fest.

P.S. The Trash Runners are going to be featured in the July issue of Runners World Magazine. Let’s show our sister groups in DC and Chicago what trash running is all about.
