Last week was the 53rd annual National Convention for the Road Runners Club of America. It was the first convention that I’ve been able to attend, and the first since I have become the representative for the state of Maine.
If you ever have an opportunity to get to one of these conventions, then I recommend you make the effort. I learned a lot and had a great time networking with everybody throughout the week, and it also gave me an opportunity to get another state out of the way on my quest to run a marathon in all 50 states.

Hey, this is Blaine Moore from RunToWin.com, and last week I went to the 53rd annual RRCA National Convention, which this year took place in Fredericksburg, Virginia. This was my first convention. It was a lot fun! I’m glad that I got to go.
The week basically went like this: I flew in on Wednesday afternoon. Thursday was the state reps’ meeting where we got some training and I got to meet the other reps from our regions, and from across the country.
And then on Friday and Saturday, we basically had a run in the morning, some breakout sessions in the morning and afternoon, and a lunch time presentation. And then on Saturday evening, we had the annual banquet which kind of finished everything up. And there was the Marine Corps Half-Marathon on Sunday which, I didn’t run the half-marathon, but that’s for another time.
The breakout sessions were very informative. I learned quite a bit. We had a meeting with the Star Insurance folks who will provide the insurance for all of the clubs and events that you probably run in every weekend.
The first lunch was with Billy Mills who is the guest presenter, and if you ever have an opportunity to see Billy Mills speak, then I highly recommend that you take it. He is an excellent speaker.
Gary Morgan did the presentation on Saturday, at lunch time. He is an Olympian as well.
And then Julie Isphording was the speaker at the banquet on Saturday evening. She was hilarious! She has a great sense of humor and is also a very good speaker.
So, one of the best parts about the weekend was just getting to meet everybody from around the country, see how other people help support their clubs, and what’s going on in the sport of running from coast to coast.
So, if you get an opportunity, next year’s annual convention is going to be in Memphis. So it will be in mid-March. I hope that I get to see you there.
If you would like more details about what I learned, and some of the actual topics, then check out the link that will be below this video, and that will give you access to my notes that I took for the entire convention.
