Gary Allen, founder of Crow Athletics and the race director for the Mount Desert Island Marathon and the Great Cranberry Island Ultramarathon, has begun his run today from the top of Cadillac Mountain to Washington, D.C. His goal is to raise money for the Wounded Warrior Project while getting to our nation’s capital in time for the inauguration. Gary has 2 weeks to complete approximately 705 miles, and as of when this update goes up, he’s already run almost 22 miles since beginning at 6 a.m. this morning.

You can track Gary live through the MyAthlete Live service, which allows you to see where Gary is at any given moment during his run. (The screenshot up above is from the service.)

If you live along his intended route, please reach out and see if you can run a few miles with him, or bring him a cup of coffee or water refill. He’ll appreciate the help, I’m sure! He’s also looking for places to sleep each night, so if you’ve got a spare bedroom or an available couch and he’ll be in your area, he can certainly use the help.

You can learn all about his run and make a donation through his website at: Maine2DCRun.com

I am planning on running with him when he comes through Southern Maine, and will post updates as they’re available.
