How do welcome the New Year? Do you stay up late and party on New Year’s Eve, do you run a road race at midnight, do you stay at home and watch the ball drop with the kids? Or are you boring like me and go to bed at your normal time?
How about New Year’s Day?
If you are looking for some fun and will be in Southern Maine, you can join in on the 1st Annual Resolution Run at Maine Running Company and the Great Lost Bear. The run (which is not a race) is free of charge and includes free t-shirts and raffle prizes for some of the participants.
The run begins at Maine Running Company at 11:30 am on January 1st, and you have the option of going out for a 6 mile loop, a 3 mile loop, or just crossing the street to the finish line and getting started with post-race festivities early at the Great Lost Bear.
For those not in the know, the Great Lost Bear is one of the best pubs in the state to enjoy craft beer brewed in Maine and New England. According to Will Anderson’s Great State of Maine Beer Book, the Great Lost Bear won top honors by (at the time) representing 36 Maine Brews from 14 breweries. That was in 1996, and 10 years later they still offer upwards of 2 dozen Maine beers from 19 breweries amongst their 54 taps.
The first 20 people to arrive at Maine Running Company will get a free t-shirt, and 20 more shirts will be raffled off at the Great Lost Bear after the run. Other running items will be raffled and auctioned off, and all proceeds and donations will benefit the Long Creek Youth Development Center. So come on out for a friendly run through Portland, and enjoy a new year’s beer afterwards.
