My good friend and fellow Trail Monster Jamie Anderson wasn’t able to run on Saturday, but he brought his video camera to catch the action and put together this great video that gives you a good idea of what it was like to race in the Pineland Farms Barefoot 5k:
It was a fun race, and while my wife and I were watching it she said, “Maybe next year I should get some Five Fingers so that I can run in the barefoot race.” Which I find especially humorous given how much she makes fun of me for running barefoot in general and for having the Five Fingers specifically.
If you want more details, you can read my full race report and write-up from a couple of days ago:

Great video! You’re an animal! I couldn’t help but notice that every time you were caught on the video you passed at least two or three other runners (shod and unshod)…
Well…technically, I was only passing shod runners other than at the very beginning. I led the first mile, and then the 2 guys (barefoot) that wound up beating me passed me over the next mile, and while the first guy in Five Fingers was pretty close (the blue singlet in one of the shots of the video) nobody else was.
Everybody else were the folks that started 10 minutes ahead of us in the normal 5k trail race.
It was a lot of fun, though, and I think that Jamie captured that pretty well in the video. I hope that Tri-Maine and the Pineland crew share it far and wide so a lot of people can see it.
It was a good video… The compression sleeves area nice touch running barefoot 🙂
Go, Barefoot Erin, Go! ☺
Hey – I saw shoes in that clip.
Joe, there was a normal 5k that started at 11:00, the barefoot 5k (which had two divisions, barefoot and five fingers or similar shoes) started at 11:10.
The top barefoot runners passed a good part of the regular 5k field despite the 10 minute handicap.
Nobody wearing shoes ran faster than the top 3 barefoot runners.
Don’t laugh. My wife thought my Five Fingers were pretty weird when I got them in September 2008, but she now has her own pair and she was in the race. We’ll definitely be back next year.
She’s not in the video and I appear at about the 1:00 mark (the big slow guy in the red shirt). It was nice to meet you there.
