Mike Tice‘s job is safe, says Vikings owner Zygi Wilf. The Vikings had just lost their second game, getting crushed by the Cincinnati Bengals 31-7.
“We’re going to turn it around,” Wilf said. “We spoke in detail with the coach and coaching staff and we know what we have to do. We have to get everybody back and energized and back in the winning ways. We’re 0-2, but it’s a long season ahead of us. Our main goal right now is still to win our division, and I think we can get back in our winning ways.”
Mike Tice has been on the chopping block for the last few years. There are always rumors that he is going to get fired, and he never does. He even tried to shop himself around for the University of Washington’s coaching position last year, with little success. He has also had some fun scalping tickets to the superbowl. You know that when somebody says, “Your job is safe” that they really mean, “You better perform.” Of course, given his history, maybe his job really is safe.
I will believe it when he’s still there next year, though. The only way I think that he can keep his job, is if he puts this bad start to the season behind him and starts to win some games. What happened to the Vikings being better for having gotten rid of their best player, anyway?
Thing about the Vikes is that 8-8 could win their division. And I think the Vikings have a chance at that. They play Chicago, Detroit, and two against Green Bay in the next few weeks, so they could be sitting atop their division by mid-November.
