Going without a drink can make you more sensitive to pain, a study has found. […] The study participants had pressure applied to their thumbs to induce mild pain and were given saline injections to stimulate thirst.
Perhaps this is a subliminal message that causes me to drink so much water. Our bodies are mostly made up of water. It is important to maintain hydration levels, especially when working out.
The study points out that the opposite reaction is likely when severe dehydration sets in.
Previous studies in rats have shown that mild thirst makes the animals feel more pain but severe dehydration actually dulls pain
