The other day I wrote about an attempt at the treadmill world record for running 24 consecutive hours by a team of 12 people. Jim gave me a heads up that they had in fact broken the record before I remembered to check for myself. Not only did they break it, though; they smashed the…
The Great Lakes HSA 24 Hour Treadmill Challenge will begin tomorrow evening at 5pm in Rocky River, Ohio. Twelve runners will attempt to run a new world record distance by 5pm Saturday evening. Each runner will run for at least 2 hours, but some members of the team will be running at the same time….
Adeel poses yet another interesting question over at the Complete Running Network when he asks, “Is a 2-hour marathon possible?” It is a great question, and I believe that the answer is yes. Somebody will sooner or later run a 2 hour marathon. The question, however, is how legit of an effort will that be….
I just got an email from one of my teammates at Dirigo, Peter Hall. He is interested in reading Coast to Coast, a book about my former teammates who set the transcontinental relay record in running from the Pacific to the Atlantic. Pete pointed out to me, however, that the record that they were shooting…
This week last year was actually fairly eventful. One of my most popular articles about Lance Armstrong were published this week last year after he had to deny more doping charges (which also had a follow up article a few days later.) I also wrote a detailed article about what EPO is. Eric Rudolph was…
Asafa Powell has run 100 meters in 9.77 seconds for the third time, this time in Zurich at the Weltklasse Golden League meet earlier today. “It felt good out there,” said Powell, who led from start to finish, with American Tyson Gay finishing second in a personal best of 9.84. […] His latest record run…
This week last year dealt mostly about steroids and baseball’s poster child, Barry Bonds. Rafael Palmeiro tested positive last year, proving Jose Conseco right. The Italian police busted up a steroid ring that was supplying steroids to US soldiers in Iraq. Barry Bonds had some fun with the media. First, he said that he was…
Justin Gatlin and Asafa Powell have dominated the 100 meter sprint for the past few years. Asafa Powell set the bar at 9.77 seconds in June of 2005. Justin Gatlin broke that record in 9.76 on May 12, 2006, only to later be corrected and to have his time adjusted to a record-tying 9.77 seconds….
Apparantly, there was a rounding error last week when Justin Gatlin broke the world record in the 100 meters. His official timing came through in 9.766, which means that his time should have been manually rounded up to 9.77 before being reported. This means that he did not in fact break the record, he only…
