Oskar NijsSammy Korir of Kenya ran his first marathon in under 2 hours and 9 minutes in Rotterdam back 1997, a course where he has run under 2:09 3 times. When Paul Tergat ran his (then) world record time of 2:04:55, Sammy Korir was only 1 second behind him.
Last Friday, he placed 3rd behind Haile Gebrselassie at the Dubai Marathon with a time of 2:08:01. The Dubai Marathon would be his 10th performance in about as many years under the 2:09 mark, a feat that nobody else has ever done.
