It can be embarassing to push off of the wall and discover that your swim trunks are around your ankles.
For the record, this did not happen to me today. I felt them slipping and managed to grab them and tie them. However, it used to happen on a regular basis when I would go lake swimming after a run. Running shorts and diving off of a dock provided no end of amusement to the local kids, who got to see a lot of painful belly flops mixed in with the shorts sliding any time I managed to do one right. Running shorts without draw strings do not mix well with diving.
Or, you could be like me, and swim with a suit that lost its draw string 🙂 That lasted until my wife pointed out that I had two that were properly equiped!
I have three pairs of swim trunks. One pair was given to me by a friend of mine’s kids many years ago, and is (I think) buried somewhere at my mother’s house. Another pair I wear when I am doing workout swimming and are just regular swim trunks. A third pair I usually wear to the beach since they look like khaki shorts and have convenient pockets for carrying loose change and keys in. All three have their draw strings (although the khakis actually have more of a built in belt)!
