The LL Bean 10k in Freeport, Maine was this morning. Ethan Hemphill won in 33:09, followed by Michael Payson in 33:11. Joan Benoit Samuelson won the women’s race. The LL Bean 10k is a scenic course that is not quite flat. There is a steep downhill at the start and around four miles, and some…
The 50 States Marathon Club was something I wanted to be a part of (I am 10% there). I never actually looked into it; I just assumed there was an actual club and if not that it was just a thing where you could say “Yeah, I ran a marathon in every state.” While searching…
Now that I have done the legwork, there are 7 races that meet my criteria. My criteria is that they must be between September 1st and December 1st this year, and that they must be in New England, and that they must not be in Maine or Massachusetts. The races are: September 11: Stowe Marathon…
The 14th annual Literacy Volunteers 5k Road Race was yesterday. It was certainly a not cold day. Runners battled heat in the 80s and 90s on a course that offers little to no shade. There was a slight headwind in a few places that helped to cool things off. Blaine Moore led the first half…
Former Patriots back Ty Law is finally doing workouts for teams again. He must be recovering from his broken foot sufficiently to show off the goods, so it will be interesting to see where he winds up. Given that he is represented by Kevin and Carl Poston, a couple of agents who tend to ask…

The course features a 70 foot drop, and they have been billing it as an opportunity to see a sub 4-minute mile. Unfortunately, there was not…
I am still trying to catch up on everything, especially my sleep. I seem to have been getting enough every day since my 27 hour work day, but I am still fair on tired and got the aching back thing going. We will see if running tonight will help me sleep and then feel nice…
Once A Runner by John L Parker, Jr is probably my favorite running book and one of my favorite fiction books. I was introduced to this book my freshman year of college on our way to Williams for a meet. One of the upper classmen threw his copy of the book at me and said,…
Ultramarathon Man: Confessions of an All-Night Runner is a book that I picked up on a whim a few weeks ago while browsing through a bookstore. The lady and I were waiting to meet some friends down the block and it seemed like a good place to get out of the rain. I loved this…
The Greater Portland YMCA Back Bay 5k was Friday night. Erin and I ran down to the start as our warmup, and then hobbled our way through the race. The weather (somewhat) cooperated; for a change it was not raining. There are rumors that this afternoon the sun even shone for a few minutes at…
