The 9th annual Beach to Beacon 10k was this morning, and there were some fast times posted. Tom Nyariki prevented Gilbert Okari from winning for the fourth time in a row by running over 20 seconds faster, 27:48 to 28:09. Lawrence Kiprotich was just ahead of Okari in 28:04. It is now time to highlight what I wrote about at this time last year. The L.L. Bean 10k race results, which included a great quote from one of the kids at the race. The lack of runner friendly roads in Long Island, NY. A review of Sportshoe Center, a local shoe store. A review…
Here is a quick breakdown of races this Fourth of July. I’ll cover the Bridgton Four on the Fourth, the Freeport L.L. Bean 10k, the York Four on the Fourth, the Kennebunkport Goose Rocks Beach 5K, the Winthrop Friends on the Fourth 5k and the Sebec Village Fourth of July 5k.
The latest USATF-New England grand prix race was this morning in Methuen, Mass. The Whirlaway 10k had some better weather this year than they did last year, and they had enough water at the finish line for everybody this time. The course takes a quick trip up over the first few miles, and is predominantly…

The Beach to Beacon 10k was yesterday, and it bears an uncanny resemblance to the Yarmouth Clam Festival Classic a few weeks ago. In Yarmouth, I ran the same time both years on the five mile course, averaging a 5:52 pace. This year at the Beach to Beacon, I ran within 1/10 of a second…
The 8th annual Beach to Beacon 10k was won by Gilbert Okari for the third time in a row. Last year he was the first male to win back to back. Lornah Kiplagat, who has been winning major races left and right, was the first woman to cross the line. Eric Giddings and Emily Levan…
