Photo by Tim BigarelliPatrik Sinkowitz signed the UCI charter that states that he is not involved in any sort of doping, and that he would have to pay back a year of his salary if he was caught and was given a 2 year ban from competition. His “A” sample and has come back from…
I am glad that I am not a professional cyclist right now. The sport has a rediculous amount of negative publicity heaped upon it on an annual basis because there are not only a (seemingly) large number of cheaters in the sport, but the governing body that is supposed to catch the cheaters is either…
Last year, a Spanish raid resulted in the ruined careers of athletes even before any hard evidence ever appeared. For some of the people, such as Jan Ullrich, the investigation had already been dropped. The damage had already been done to his reputation, though, and forced his retirement from cycling. Now, anybody else concerned about…
It seems that as far as doping labs go, they can never seem to get anything right. It was not too long ago that an 7 year old anonymous blood sample that had no control samples (since the control samples had been previously tested came back negative) seemingly proved Lance Armstrong was a doper. Floyd Landis asked the French anti-doping agency to postpone their ruling on whether to suspend him until after he had had a chance to defend himself before the US anti-doping agency this May. In order to get them to agree to postpone the ruling, he will not participate in any French races for the year….
The NFL and the NFL Players Association have reached an agreement earlier today to improve testing for steroids and other performance enhancing drugs. The modifications include a 40 percent increase in the number of players randomly tested each week during the preseason, regular season and post-season from seven to 10 per team. Last year, the…
The USATF has revised their zero tolerance anti-doping policy to include coaches, agents, and medical personnel. They will now require coaches to register in order to receive benefits from USATF, including credentials to national championships, stipends, positions on national team staffs and media exposure for themselves or their athletes. By making the policy less athlete-centered,…
Spanish authorities have released a bag of blood captured in the raid in Madrid last year. Jan Ullrich‘s attorneys are trying to keep a saliva sample he gave in September from being DNA tested and compared to the blood sample. The DNA comparison could prove the use of performance-enhancing drugs. But it also could clear…
Floyd Landis has been in the news a bit lately after he criticized Dick Pound and then announced that he would wants a second Tour victory to replace his memories of his last race. Criticizing Dick Pound is nothing new; he has a history of making ill-informed and innappriate comments. What I find interesting is…
Last June, Jan Ullrich was one of dozens banned from the Tour de France after being linked to a Spanish doping scandal. The case against him is being dropped for the moment since there is no usable evidence. Ullrich, who says he is innocent, was fired by T-Mobile in July after being linked to the…
