Joggling the Beach to Beacon 10K Road Race
Randy Judkins is trying to raise money for the Beach to Beacon road race in Cape Elizabeth next weekend. An article about him appeared in the Maine Sunday Telegram this morning. He is going to try to raise $2000 for the Boy’s and Girl’s clubs of Maine, this year’s recipient of the Beach to Beacon proceeds. He is going to raise that money by “joggling”, which is juggling while running, for the entire 6.2 mile race.
Joggling is fun, but I have never tried doing it for more than a mile or so. That’s a lot of work! He will be juggling three balls as he goes along, which seems a bit odd to me. Clubs are much easier to control while you are joggling. Balls probably won’t tire him as quickly though. I hope that he does not cause any problems, especially at the start where it is really crowded, and that he has a good time and meets his fund raising goals.

Philadelphia DE Jerome McDougle was shot in the belly
Friday night Jerome McDougle, of the Philadelphia Eagles, got shot in the belly while 3 kids tried to steal his Mercedes. Nothing vital was hit, and he is up and moving about and should be able to play again. He was the Eagles’ #1 draft choice in 2003. He had 13 tackles and 2 sacks last year.

Workout Tip #2: Proper Hydration
I was reading an article (which I can no longer find), and came across a tip about not relying on thirst to determine when to hydrate yourself. This is something I have heard time and again throughout my competitive running days, and it bears repeating. (Click here to continue reading…)

Larry Brown to Coach Knicks
Larry Brown, former coach of the Detroit Pistons, has officially become the coach of the New York Knicks (Press Release). Rumors have it that his deal is about on par with Phil Jackson’s deal with the Los Angeles Lakers; about 5 years and between $50 to $60 million. His agent isn’t talking, though, so who knows if that is true. I have no trouble believing it though.
Will these teams never learn? Offer him a 2 year contract with good extension possibilities. There is next to no chance that he will stay longer than 2 seasons. He had a good run with Philadelphia 76ers from 1997 to 2002, but he is never satisfied and is constantly moving on. His first season with each new team he is always all lovy-dovy, but it never lasts. He starts saying he is dissatisfied with this, or with that, or with the other thing. Then he gets himself fired or bought out and moves on to a new contract.
Now, that is not such a bad thing. I just think that teams are fooling themselves if they think that he is going to stick around for a full contract, so why have to pay him for seasons he isn’t working when you know he will be leaving?

Shaun Alexander has signed a 1 year contract with the Seahawks
Shaun Alexander has finally come to an agreement with the Seattle Seahawks. He did not want to have the franchise tag, and has signed a 1 year contract that has the same money and length as the franchise tender, but which prohibits the Seahawks from re-franchising him next off-season. It also makes him an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.
You can expect to see him with either the long term deal that he wants next year, or playing for somebody else. Either way, I expect that he is going to have a good year this year, and that he’ll be putting up good numbers for the Seahawks and for fantasy owners.
Update: Initial reports on Matt Clement are good
Last night Matt Clement got beaned in the back of the head by a baseball and carted off to the hospital. According to early reports, he never lost consciousness and was in good spirits. A CAT scan came back negative, and he should be able to go home with the team tonight. Let’s hope so.

Matt Clement hit by pitch and taken off on a stretcher
The Red Sox were playing the Devil Rays this evening, when in the top of the third inning Matt Clement got beaned by Carl Crawford from a line drive right back at the pitcher. The ball got him right behind his ear and knocked him backwards off the mound, where he lay twitching and holding his neck for about 5 minutes while they immobilized him and carried him off on a stretcher. He was taken to Bayfront Medical Center, but there is no word yet on his condition.

This tip is for anybody that has trouble timing their rest when they are lifting weights, either due to being distracted or not remembering when they finished their last set or just not being able to keep track of when to start the next set.
