Mary’s Walk and the Kerryman Pub 5k was yesterday at noon. Ethan Hemphill won with a new course record of 15:36, breaking his old record from last year by 10 seconds. This course is only two years old, however; the race used to be a four miler. Dirigo had a strong showing up front. It…
It seems to me as though early season races are usually sponsored by Pubs. Maybe it is only Maine, with last week’s Brian Ború race and this week’s Kerryman Pub Race but I know of a few races this time of year in New York that are also sponsored by taverns. I suppose one reason…
The Irish Road Rover 5k was yesterday morning in Portland, and the weather was fantastic. It was a very fast race for a season opener in Maine, with a winning time of 15:44 by Ethan Hemphill. Two other folk made it under 16 minutes, Kevin Tilton and Chris Muentener. There were also 5 other people…
The Austin Freescale Marathon was on Sunday. The gun went off, the crowd began the race, and a freaked out deer tried to bandit the race. The deer, apparently disoriented, leaped over a pack of runners in the Freescale Austin Marathon on Sunday and hit Tillinghast’s left side when he was about 200 yards from…

Active.com has an article about taking a break after your Fall marathon. Training for a marathon is a long, arduous process that involves 18 weeks of gradually tearing down an athlete’s body and rebuilding it. Once a runner hits the starting line, he or she has developed a highly tuned aerobic and energy distribution machine….
The Hannaford Turkey Trot was this morning in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. Devin Shaw won the race in 16:52, followed closely by 5 teenagers over the next half minute or so. Kristin Barry won the women’s race a minute behind Devin Shaw in 17:52. There were 419 finishers. Images of the start line and finish can…
Kevin Collins may be winding down his career, but even on casual training he can still compete on a level very few can ever even dream of. His most recent conquest was a win in the Stockade-athon 15k in Schenectady, New York. He won in 47 minutes and 22 seconds. He went through the first…
