Temperatures in the upper 80s with a fair bit of humidity made things a bit toasty this week at the Back Cove 5k, but Andrew Clemence (17:13) and Christine Irish (19:56) didn’t let that slow them down as they both won their races by over a minute. 186 people finished the race on Wednesday night,…
Last week I skipped the Weekly Back Cove Series since I knew that I’d run faster than I should right after my 50k. There were 169 people that braved the weather, but the storms held off in Portland long enough for the racers to stay dry. Nick Wheeler (16:21) and Christine Irish (20:04) both ran…
The weather was relatively cool last night at the 10th Back Cove 5k, hovering in the mid-70s (which is nice compared to the past few weeks), but the humidity was much higher than I was expecting it to be. I went out right where I wanted to be with a 5:33, after which I passed…
Beautiful weather and a strong field led to 9 finishers under 18 minutes last night with Claton Conrad winning the race in 16:19 by over 40 seconds. Erin Lane was the only woman under 20 minutes as she finished with her husband and daughter in 19:53. There were 244 finishers in the race. I just…

I think that I probably wasn’t alone while dreading the 5k last night. When I left work, it was 91 degrees out with no air movement. Thankfully, by the time that I drove to the race start, about 5 miles towards the ocean, the temperature had dropped about 20 degrees and a nice breeze had…
Portland’s weekly Summer 5k race series kicked off this evening with temperatures about as great as you could ask for in any race and a nice tailwind for the first mile. Of course, that meant that there was a pretty stiff breeze in the last two miles but all in all the weather was quite…
